CPAP machines are prescription medical devices. This article is general information about features and travel convenience, not medical advice. Your pressure settings and equipment should be chosen with your doctor or sleep specialist, and you should talk to them before changing machines.

VS
What we love
  • Waterless HumidX humidification built around ResMed setup packs
  • ResMed's auto algorithm, comfort features and app
  • Huge accessory ecosystem and a best-seller at RespShop
What bugs us
  • Heavier and bigger than the Transcend Micro
  • Costs more, and is louder on paper

The ResMed AirMini and the Transcend Micro are the two travel CPAPs most people end up choosing between. Both are auto-adjusting, both run 4–20 cm H2O, and both fit in a carry-on. The differences are in size, noise, humidification and price.

Reminder: both are prescription devices. Your settings should come from your doctor or sleep specialist, so check with them before switching machines.

Short answer: the AirMini for the more complete, better-supported travel setup. The Transcend Micro if you want the smallest, lightest, cheaper machine.

Round 1: Size and weight — Transcend Micro wins

At roughly 7.7 oz versus 10.6 oz, the Transcend Micro is the lighter machine and has a smaller footprint. If you’re an ultralight packer, this is a real difference.

Round 2: Humidification — AirMini wins

Both offer waterless humidification. The AirMini’s HumidX is built into ResMed’s mask setup packs, so it’s part of the standard way to use the machine. The Transcend’s AirMist HME is a separate add-on kit.

Round 3: Smart therapy and app — AirMini wins

ResMed’s auto-adjusting algorithm, EPR, AutoRamp and SmartStart/Stop, plus app-based setup and nightly data, make the AirMini the more polished experience, especially if you already use a ResMed machine at home.

Round 4: Ecosystem and support — AirMini wins

ResMed’s accessory lineup is huge: setup packs for several mask styles, HumidX cartridges, a noise-cancelling kit, cases, batteries and DC power. The AirMini is RespShop’s travel CPAP best-seller, and parts are easy to find.

Round 5: Price — Transcend Micro wins

At about $779 versus $919 for the machine alone, the Transcend Micro saves you real money. It’s also quieter on paper.

The verdict

AirMini wins, 3 rounds to 2. The Transcend Micro is lighter, cheaper and quieter on paper. But the AirMini’s waterless humidification, smart features and ResMed support make it the more complete travel setup for most people.

Whichever you choose, ask your sleep specialist to confirm it’s right for your therapy.
