What we love
- Holds twice the cards of Ekster's core cardholder
- Lifetime warranty vs Ekster's 12 months
- Tougher, simpler mechanism — nothing to break
What bugs us
- Ekster's pop-up button is faster for grabbing one card
- Ridge usually costs a little more
If you’ve been shopping for a slim wallet for more than 11 seconds, you’ve been served ads for both of these. The Ridge Wallet and the Ekster Aluminum Cardholder are the two heavyweights of the minimalist wallet world. They solve the same problem in very different ways.
Short answer: the Ridge wins for most guys. The Ekster wins if you carry fewer cards and hate fishing for them.

Round 1: Capacity — Ridge wins
This isn’t close. The Ridge expands from 1 to 12 cards thanks to its elastic core. Ekster’s cardholder tops out around 6 non-embossed cards before you need to bolt on the backplate. If you carry an ID, 3 credit cards, a gym card, insurance card and a business card, the Ridge just swallows it.
Round 2: Speed of access — Ekster wins
Ekster’s trigger is the best party trick in wallets. One click and your cards stagger upward so you can see and grab the one you need. With the Ridge, you push the stack out through the thumb notch and fan through them. It’s fine once you’re used to it — but the Ekster is faster and more fun.
Round 3: Durability — Ridge wins
The Ridge is two plates and an elastic. There’s basically nothing to break, and Ridge backs it with a lifetime warranty. The Ekster has a spring-loaded mechanism, which is more moving parts and more ways for something to go wrong over years of use — and its standard warranty is 12 months.
Round 4: Style — Tie
Ridge has the wider material menu (titanium and carbon look incredible). Ekster has a sleeker, rounder shape and a lot of color finishes. This one comes down to taste.
Round 5: Price — Ekster wins (slightly)
Ekster usually undercuts the Ridge by $10–25 depending on the sale. Both run promos constantly, so check both before buying.

Who should buy which
Buy the Ridge if…

- You want something that’ll last a decade
- You want titanium or carbon fiber options
Buy the Ekster if…

The verdict
Ridge takes it, 3 rounds to 2. It holds more, lasts longer, and has the better warranty. The Ekster’s button is fun, but capacity and durability matter more over years of daily carry.
